Check out the uncensored version of Eminem's "White America". Seems like it's still possible to be mainstream and come through with a political message, at the same time. Which is good news. In case you miss some of the words, full text is here.

Couple of good quotes from Eroding Personal Time

A popular phrase at Amazon.com after my time there: you can work long, hard, or smart; pick any three.

[She] tried to convince her bosses to let her work part-time when she had a baby. They took her to lunch and said, we don't understand. You work so hard already -- how will you do everything in half the time?

Og i UMOF kategorien (altså Ugens Mindst Overraskende Facts) finder vi følgende spørgsmål stillet til journaliststuderende (og sakset herfra);

Friendly fire; For a live demonstration before an audience of 500 people, Mr. Bezos once logged onto Amazon.com (amazon.com) to show how it caters to his interests. The top recommendation it gave him? The DVD for "Slave Girls From Beyond Infinity." That popped up because he had previously ordered "Barbarella," starring Jane Fonda, a spokesman explained.

From this fine article on what happens when "Smart" database driven personalization backfires.

Thomas L. Friedman on the expansion of NATO;

In fact, I imagine after this round of expansion that when you call NATO headquarters in Brussels, a recording will answer that will go something like this: "Hello. You have reached NATO. Dial 1 if you want help consolidating your democracy. Dial 2 if you need minesweeping. Dial 3 if you need anti-chemical warfare trucks. If you need to fight a real war, please stay on the line and an English-speaking operator will assist you."

...And a fitting, harsh response from Denmark...

Will it ever end?

Jeg ved godt min sans for humor er lidt pudsig, men der er altså en vis komik indbygget i de følgende to afsnit, som jeg har nuppet fra forrige søndags aviser;

Over kaminen hang et kongeligt sværd.

Finally; The Ellen Feiss Interview. She seems to be a pretty cool and intelligent person, with real star potential.

I went to Macworld in July. It seems like the kind of thing where if you’re not in the biz …. I thought it was the most boring thing. I got shuttled down to New York, and I got VIP seating, and I was like, “Wow, I’m at the Oscars or something,” but then I was like, “No, I’m at Macworld.” I met Steve Jobs. He called me by my first name — clever, huh? It was brief.

The funny thing was, I was on drugs! I was on Benedryl, my allergy medication, so I was really out of it anyway. That’s why my eyes were all red, because I have seasonal allergies. But no one believes me.

[If you have been on some other planet for the last six months, you can still watch the Ellen Feiss Switch commercial here]

The good ol' sneakernet* is alive and well; Even if P2P music "Sharing" has become more tricky after Napster's death, theres no stopping hand-to-hand excanges of music via CD-Rs or iPods.

*Sneakernet is the tried-and-tested old method of physically transporting data from one computer to another via feet + floppy/cd-rom/whatever.

Monsieur Ommer bringer rystende afsløringer fra optagelserne af "The Two Towers" bl.a;

Mr. Sigurdsson says;

Mr. Grønbæk (or, as he apparently would like to be called, ‘Mr. Exit’) is writing a blog in English.

That opens up for some amusing clashes with his native tongue, the Danish. Like for instance when he mentions his participation in an event with the (Danish) title of FagFestival.

True enough; The number one hit on Google for "Fag festival" brings up a somewhat different take on that particular term.

Interesting interview with the woman who did the original Macintosh icons;
That was a concept we struggled with, because that was the control key. [...] So I said, "Let's try something abstract." So I was pouring through books of symbols, and I thought it was a sign on Swedish campgrounds that meant "interesting feature," or something to look at that was interesting. So that seemed to fit.

Always wondered why the Mac has the danish "Museum" symbol on the control key. Great to finde the explanation now, almost 20 years later.

So you want to be a wine buff? Easy, just follow Tim Atkin's 12-step programme.... Here's a selection;

3 'The red is too warm.' Or, for variety: 'The white is too cold.'

5 'This is a food wine.' A completely meaningless statement, but boy does it sound good.

6 'This wine needs to breathe a bit.' Swirl the wine in your glass as you say this, to give it some aeration. Add: 'The wine is starting to open up.'

10 'Spain is the new Italy.' Or vice versa, if you prefer.

11 'I don't drink Chardonnay. Riesling is so much more complex.' The ABC movement (Anything But Chardonnay) is very trendy right now.

Good personal account of a visit to the MIT Medialab: TECHSPLOITATION: The Lego Mystique. The article presents a somewhat simplified view of the Lab'b overall mission, but there are some fun quotes;
The Media Lab's main goal, obviously, is to create a working environment that early-'90s corporate guru Tom Peters called "WOW!" Both the lab's aesthetics (rooms full of Legos!) and its guiding principle (have fun!) reminded me of a fantastic dot-com during the boom years, albeit without the free food and soda.

What to do...?

Henrik Dahl siger;

Shift Magazine has a great piece on The defining moments in Digital Culture. I agree with most of the chosen moments, especially when you include the runners-up. Glad to see my all-time favorite site get the credit they deserve.
Within a few years, Suck.com had become the rosetta stone for online culture. Its tone -- dry as sandpaper -- set the standard for all internet prose. Its use of links as punctuation created a new online grammar (they often linked the word "sellout" back to their own site). By helping online browsers sardonically sort through the mess of the online content, the now-defunct Suck prefigured today's cultural juggernaut: The blog, with millions of users chronicling their online travels.

Dårlig nyt; United Spaces i KBH konkurs.

It is not a question of "If" but "When" the inevitable Google-backlash happens. When it happens it's nice to know that AlltheWeb.com is waiting in the wings. It's searching 2.1 billion docs, it's searching Flash-content, and it has a cool skins collection. FAST, the company behind AlltheWeb is Norwegian and certainly one to watch out for.
