Be good to yourself, spend a little time with Invention at Play. Fun activities, great site design and interesting facts about inventions and inventors.
Will the insanity never stop (hopefully not); The Ellen Feiss pumpkin from Hell. Full story in Wired and Happy Hallov veen to you from tveskov.com!
More music madness; Ozzy at the White House "The thing about Ozzy," quipped [George W. Bush] during his speech, "is he's had a lot of big recordings - Party With the Animals, Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath, Face in Hell, Black Skies and Blood in Paradise. Ozzy, Mom loves your stuff.".
Rageboy is in love with Nanna...
Mr. Spikol brings me the sad news about Run DMC member Jam Master Jay's untimely death. I went to one of their first european concerts at the Hammersmith Odeon in september 1986. They were on the first Def Jam Raising Hell tour with the Beastie Boys and LL Cool J, it is one of the best concerts I've ever attended, kept both my ears and brain ringing for days. In other not-so-related music news, Björk's mother ends hunger strike in the middle of nowhere, Iceland.
Adventures in Pop Part IIIHere are some possible follow-up songs for one-hit wonders:
How Are We Going to Get These Dogs Back In?

We Never Took It and Persist in Our Refusal to Take It

Domain name of the week; UsabilityMustDie.com. The site includes a nice picture of a very young Jakob and a great page on VCR usability.
In the age of point-and-shoot digital photography madness, here's ten useful tips for taking better pictures with your digicam.
Besides being completely evil and all that, I have to say the Orange/Microsoft Smartphone looks quite attractive. Not so much the physical design, but the concept of having Explorer, Messenger, Mediaplayer and Outlook in the shirt-pocket is pretty sexy (until you get your phone-bill, that is).
Great idea for this years office x-mas party; Full Body Scans. This selection from Tokyo Game Show 2002 includes the one-and-only Justin Hall plus girlfreind.
Teaser trailer for the upcoming "Bionicle : Mask of Light" direct-to-video movie. The clip is pretty much content free, but at least it includes the ultimate trailer clichees; "In a time..." and "in a world..."
As much as I would love to read a 61 page Jakob Nielsen report on how to decorate your website for holidays and special occasions, I'll settle for the short version and decorate my blog with a wonderful fall clip-art clipping:
Klik ikke uden videre på hyperlinks, du risikerer fængsel eller bødestraf; [Søren Christensens] forbrydelse er at have skrevet et debatindlæg i Computerworld Onlines debatforum, hvori han beskrev, hvordan man med en enkelt internetadresse, URL, kunne lægge hele Valus-systemet ned.
"Lad være med at klikke - det er jo næsten for let," skrev Søren Christensen bagefter i en parentes.
Men parantesen var forgæves.
I naively thought it would generate som return-traffic to be on the Chart Top 10. Seems not to be the case.
Tom Lehrer link of the day / week / month year. Take a deep breath and click here.
GIF anim of the weekWhen all else fails, punch the sucker in da face. Buzz Aldrin will not take anymore bull from Moon-landing Conspiracy Theorists.
Memo to US radiostations; Do not play "Another one bites the dust" immediately after reporting on the Washington sniper; The song, by Queen, includes the phrase, "Out of the doorway the bullets rip, to the sound of the beat." Tuesday morning's victim was shot in the doorway of a commuter bus.
Dead and deserted websites always get me down.
When all else fails on a wednesday afternoon, a link to Wired will do: Gettin' Jiggly Wit It on the art of simulating breasts in 3D; November 2002 will be remembered as the month digital breasts busted out of their bras. Two bodacious titles are here to titillate the masses: BMX XXX and Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball. Digital breasts that move like real ones were previously impossible to achieve. “I never imagined that I’d be using my expertise in this manner and consider myself very, very lucky,” says XXX programmer Nick Torkos. “Hopefully this will convince others to study math.
Black people love us. We are well-liked by Black people so we're psyched (since lots of Black people don't like lots of White people)!! We thought it'd be cool to honor our exceptional status with a ROCKIN' domain name and a killer website!
The guy behind the oddly-named Tubafrog is a top-notch LEGO 3D Raytrace fanatic. It's quite weird, but wonderful to see LEGO Space models I designed many years ago (such as this, this and this) recreated and re-vitalized as 3D models. The site include yet another not-quite-by-the-book disclaimer; Did you know that LEGO® is a trademark of the Lego Group? It's true. And furthermore, you need to know that the Lego Group does not sponsor, authorize, or endorse this site. Maybe they will change their tune when I win the Nobel Prize for my Lego® renderings...
The sans font (aptly and quite cleverly named Press) looks like a mix between Univers and Verdana with a touch of Gill Sans. The first is boring, the middle is down-right ugly (shame on you, Microsoft) and Gill should be named “The Nightmare Below the Baseline”. The serif actually looks very newspaper-y, but is a bit too loose in the spacing, if you ask me. One could compare that to looseness of wrists.
Finally, the corporate site of LittleDevice. A smooth and clean experience, well done guys! And in other news; Congratulations to former LEGO colleagues Ghost for winning the regional "Janteknuser" prize 2002!
Adventures in Pop part IIThou shalt not soil the memory of the Sugar Hill Gang. Unfortunately, The Ketchup Song is just as annoying as the Macarena. UPDATE: Spiderman does the Ketchup Song [Thanx to Spikol].
Sometimes, this is how I feel:
One of the best books in the past few years is without a doubt No Logo by Naomi Klein. Here is a good interview with her. When I visited Andy Law at St. Lukes he said, “Everybody wants unbranded public space now, so we’re thinking of creating websites that are unbranded, but brought to you by a brand. There wouldn’t be any ads, and people would go there and hang out.” Unbranded space would be the new luxury item.
 Funky, funky japanese GameBoy shoes...
Ray Ozzie on openness and (gasp!) public email, including this great quote; But let's get real: email is already a semi-public space. 100% of corporate email today - YOUR email - is already being read at least once before you get to read it, probably many times more. By your ISP, by your admin. If you're paranoid, maybe by law enforcement, your school, your Dad, your spouse, or the RIAA.
Informative interview with Marissa Mayer, Google Product Manager, done by Mark Hurst from goodexperience. The Plumb Design Visual Thesaurus is also worth a look. Finally, take a stroll through London looking at Public lettering.
Seven hours of downtime on tveskov.com yesterday. Blame the weather, blame several telecoms, blame Canada. Anyways, sorry sorry with sugar on top, everything should be back to normal now.
The lifecycle of a "Big Idea" is dissected here. Not sure I agree with the second point ("Ideas written up in Fast Company Magazine"). Big ideas are written up in many places other than FC. [Via Mr. HHH].
So this is what goes on inside my Mac, always wondered about that. [via NSOP].
Creativelab.org - Digitalt Design i Trekantsområdet
Next year Fujitsu will launch a nice little home robot. It's called Moron-One, sorry; Maron-1 and it can be controlled from your mobile phone, and also works as a hands-free telephone (not exactly a killer app.)
What a great cömmercial from IKEA. Faint echoes of the old Pixar classic short "Red's Dream"...
Check out the LEGO Mini-Mizer! (Try the "Randomize" function to see the possibilities...)
The future of logo design? The Sony/Ericsson alliance has a 3D logo and it works really well in animated TV Commercials, but not quite as well in print. Now the 3G provider company "3", formerly known as Hi3G goes a step further with their new 3D logo [Danish Computerworld article here] Disturbing new trend i logo design or perfect eyecandy for the Playstation generation?
Fortune Magazine revives the long-forgotten sport of giving entire generations nicknames with Generation Wrecked. Battered by the economy and the bad luck of being born between Madonna and Britney Spears, they're Generation Wrecked.
Have you noticed how the strikethrough tag have spread like the flu in the so-called blogging community? The idea being that once you post something it's cheating dishonest to go back and correct it. As if adding a few < s > < / s > tags will somehow put a stamp of credibility on your blog. I don't think so.
Word of the week; Iraqnophobia. As in Now that September is here, President Bush can launch his "initial public offering" of stock in his newest product, Iraqnophobia.John Roberts, "Bush's war talk hides economic woes," The Tennessean, September 14, 2002
Good interview with design-guru Donald Norman in New Scientist. Except for the last question; Q. Is there anything that could have been done in design terms to stop 11 September from happening? A. I don't think so.[...]
Andrew Lipson is a great LEGO builder. His creations include the much talked about Escher stair but LEGO Dilbert is pretty cool too. His disclaimer is slightly different from the official one; Because The LEGO Company get paranoid about this sort of thing I suppose I'd better make it clear that I have no formal affiliation with them, that my views are my own and do not necessarily represent theirs, and so on. So if you think any of this is official you are as deluded as they are.
The Register puts some perspective on the current anti-Google hype. Also an article about Google charging for services is bound to fly high in the Daypop charts, and of course there is a Google weblog out there.
Hey, don't smoke while reading my blog online journal, have a Cyber Cigarette Break instead.
Er det 1. April idag?
I quite like the frontpage of Eura done by Active8. The content is nothing special, but the graphical perspective makes it a bit different from the 2467 similar homepages. And Gino Dammers has done a good job building Blade in 3D.
LED madness from Mr. Kevin D. McCormick.
Self-configuring/rebuilding robots have been around for years (at least in theory), but now they've crawled into Wired news.
You have entered a world where LEGO and TRON are one. This sector is a hommage to the grandfather of all computer-animated movies Tron. So hop on yer' trusty lightcycle and go.
Is it a bird? is it a plane? Is it Jakob Nielsen with a giant LEGO rocket? Nope, it's Wayne Hussey from Seattle...
More Onion madness; Great toy buying advice for parents. Here are a few of the valuable tips; -Buy your child expensive, collectible toys and forbid him or her to take them out of the box. This will teach your child valuable life lessons about longing, deprivation, and resentment. -Decide what you would like your child to be, then only buy toys that steer him or her in that direction. -If it is Finnish, sold at an upscale toy boutique, and three times as expensive as a comparable toy made by an American company, it is safe and educational.
Worlds funniest jokes, are you laughing yet?. However, this one from The Onion is so close to reality it's not even a laughing matter anymore. And as Homer Simpson would remark; It's funny, because its true.
The name says it all; CoolJapaneseToys.com. Includes a database for the dedicated hardcore user.
It's still just an alpha version, but Organica made by this danish guy looks like a very interesting alternative/competitor to Blogdex.
I've finally managed to put a little personal portfolio together, you can get a sneek peek here. Please please report errors, unclear info etc. to me.
 Meme on the rise; Googlefight!
Check out the source-code on Colormatch. Nifty.
Make your own fractal from toothpaste and brush up on your general fractal knowledge with "Footprint of God".
 According to this article in the NYT (Registration required) 81 percent of Americans feel they have a book in them — and that they should write it. Journalist Joseph Epstein believes they should not;
Forgive me if I suggest that [writing a book] isn't the most felicitous way to do battle against oblivion. Writing a book is likely, through the quickness and completeness with which one's book will die, to make the notion of oblivion all the more vivid.
...
Misjudging one's ability to knock out a book can only be a serious and time-consuming mistake. Save the typing, save the trees, save the high tax on your own vanity. Don't write that book, my advice is, don't even think about it. Keep it inside you, where it belongs.
As if you haven't already heard; The final trailer for "The Two Towers" is now available. Wonder how many terabytes are going out from apple.com as every geek on the planet eagerly download the 39 MB full-screen version.
The Society of Obsessive Female Toy Traders [S.O.F.T.T.] has a run-down of female LEGO figures.
